Film posters: key conventions
  • Central image
  • Secondary images
  • Title
  • Tagline (like a slogan)
  • Release date
  • Stars
  • Critic reviews
  • Social media hashtags / website details
  • Production blurb
  • Iconography of the film’s genre
  1. List all the key conventions you can find. How do these attract a potential audience?  The central image is the middle third of the poster so the audience can see it  straight away  they also  used a close up to show her facial expression that's she determine to be precise whilst shooting  the arrow also they is fire around the character and that makes it more interesting and connotes there is danger and death because of the arrows. The tag line "the world will be watching " brings attention to the player and put them under  pressure . They used a female as a main character and that subversive which males are normaly the main character. The title is in capital letters to emprises the meaning and showing the title is important because the title "hunger games " has connotations off struggle and poverty. The release date is at the button of the poster so the audience will know when they can watch it .The main character Jennifer Lawrence  is already well known and she has her own audience that will come and support the film to so they don't need stars to get an audience. The film tried to represent as girls as powerful more then men .
  2. List all the film trailer key conventions you can find. How do these attract a potential audience? They have used gods view to show the surroundings also they have used fast pace music to emprises the action. Blog feedback

WWW

1)            The storyboard shows an excellent range of camera shots and you have written what you have included in each one although you could add more about how this makes your audience feel eg I have used a close up of the face of the victim because we needed to show how the victims is feeling about getting bullied.

EBI

1)            Proof read your work on your blog as there are a lot of spelling errors (eg Representation and Audience – these words are in my original blog tasks so please COPY words correctly). A tip – I would complete all your work on a WORD document first so that you can spell check it. Then copy and paste into a blog. OR proof read it to make sure that it all makes sense as poor grammar and spelling will make it hard to understand.

2)            Please revisit denotation and connotation (eg in your camera work storyboard). You say the denotation is that you have chosen a certain shot but you don’t say WHY and what the EFFECT is. Connotation is the SUGGESTIONS made by the denotation (what you see) so for instance you could say that the connotations of the over the shoulder shot is that you can see the teacher comforting the bullied student but the camera is focused on his reaction so the audience sympathise with the victim.

3)            When you are thinking about target audience, please be more specific and justify your ideas eg don’t say Attack the Block is aimed ‘probably at teenagers’ but think about HOW you know this and also the psychographic of these teenagers (what are they into? Hobbies and interests?)

Learner Response

1)            Copy and paste the above WWW and EBI into a new blog post entitled ‘Responding to Blog Feedback’

2)            Please finish all work that is not finished and publish it.

3)            Write a paragraph telling me what you have found interesting so far in Media and what has been your favourite task. What do you think you have done well in? my favourite part of media was sketching our magazine covers because it was letting all what you know about media and editing in to a magazine .

4)            Write a paragraph telling me what you have found difficult so far in Media and what has been your least favourite task. What skills do you think you need to practise?i found hard learning the meaning of words that you needed to use during media .

5)            Write a new blog post entitled ‘My Photo Shoot shopping List’ where you write down all the props and costume that you need for next week’s photo shoot. What camera angles will you use and who is going to be your model? What pose will they be in? I will need a new football , a Wycombe shirt  because im doing a medium shot so it will just get my top in he shot
